Named after the extinct Mauritius Blue Pigeon. Endemic to the Island of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean just East of Madagascar.

The white, blue, and red bird, likened to the Dutch flag became extinct in the 19th century.  The Mauritius Blue Pigeon became extinct due to deforestation for Sugar Cane farming development on the island along with the introduction of foreign animals.
